Rolf Binder 'Heinrich' Shiraz Mataro Grenache 2006
100% Estate Grown
Rolf Binder 'Heinrich' Shiraz Mataro Grenache 2006

The Heinrich is named after Rolf Heinrich Binder, father and founder of the family winery. This wine was created because of his love of the combination of the three classic Barossans – Shiraz, Mataro and Grenache.

Heinrich is a fully estate-grown wine with the Shiraz coming from the Stephanie vineyard and the Mataro from the 1972-planted Chri Ro vineyard, both of which adjoin the winery. The Grenache is sourced from the Western Ridge vineyard at nearby Gomersal, planted in the early 1950's.

The 2006 vintage is a blend of 55% Shiraz, 25% Mataro, and 20% Grenache.

The Heinrich was harvested by hand. The Shiraz, Mataro and Grenache are separately crushed, fermented and aged until final blending and bottling.

Mostly shaven and older French and American oak barriques are used for barrel-ageing, although some new oak was implemented in the ageing of the Shiraz. The wines are left in barrel for approximately eighteen months, and then blended before bottling.

The wine was blended to taste and style, utilising the body and strength of the Shiraz, the ripe confectionary fruit of the Grenache and the fine earthy tannins of century old Mataro.
