In this pictorial we follow the progress of the 2006 vintage of Bush Vine Mataro which provides much of the fruit for two of our icons wines - the Bull's Blood and the Heinrich. more...
One of the more popular jewels amongst our crown is the Tramino Frizzante.
Made from a blend of cool Gewurztraminer and the sweet globes of Frontignac, the Tramino Frizzante started out as a still wine, and was quite popular in the cellar door.
With the addition of a touch of fizz, what was the "Tramino" is now the "Tramino Frizzante"!

The vines in the vineyard were pruned and trellised in November (Spring), and their long shoots needed to be trained along the trellis. This was a vigorous growing time for the vines, and leading up to this vintage, we saw some of them already producing the small bunches of inflorescences (flowers) that will eventually become fruit.
Spring is also a good time for grafting new varieties onto old rootstock.

I’m always nervous on the day I decide to pick the Hanisch shiraz. The grapes were perfect on the 25th so in came the pickers. The pictures show the Veritas vineyard crew and a team of immigrants from Cambodia hard at work. The harvest was 7.5 tonnes.

Well the unexpected happens during vintage. Equipment breaks, hoses pop, people get cranky, grape pickers do not turn up and on Friday a hay paddock caught fire and singed a row of vines. We lost about 200 bales of hay. The hay I use to mulch the vines. Peter our sharefarmer was slashing weeds and hit a stone that we assume flicked a spark into some dried hay where it smouldered and then whoosh, it was away.
The Country Fire Brigade arrived and had the situation quickly under control. Thanks for the assistance.
I’m a bit late posting this record but the first grapes arrived on Shrove Tuesday. We picked at 7.15 am. My son Alex is very reluctant to get out of bed but come vintage, all alters. He hammered on my door at 5.30 am just like it was Christmas day. The present this day was to ride on the grape harvester. We took in 6.5 tonnes of sauvignon blanc; Christa loves the fruit and the wine will go into our Retro blend.
Today we bought in the first red grapes. This shiraz is from the Stephanie block which is close to the winery and the grapes went 14.7% baume, 8 gm of acid and 3.36ph. This is almost perfect.
Christa is quite excited about the viognier that she made in the 2005 vintage. It was her first. We talked about this vintage and she said she wanted to look for even more flavour for 2006 so it was agreed that the crop should be halved. Here is the crew dropping small bunches of grapes.
