A lovely family came to visit our Tasting Room today. Rick and Suzanne (left) came from Lindsay, Ontario, to visit their daughter Heidi and Heidi's husband, Nik (centre) in Adelaide. With them they brought Suzanne's brother Fenton, and his wife Jennie, from Kingston, Ontario (right).
They met Julie in the Tasting Room who insisted they try all of our wines on for tasting, and the group, who had visited once before, fell in love with the range of Rolf Binder, Veritas, and Magpie Estate Wines all over again.
The limited selection of fortifieds, a Tawny, a Tokay and a Muscat sourced from (we think) thirty year old barrels, were the highlight of the tasting.
But for Nik, the Magpie Estate Salvation Gewurztraminer was the standout.
Crisp and zesty, with a touch of residual sugar, this wine resembles a big bouquet of spring flowers. Perfect when looking for that perfect wine to match Asian food, particularly Thai or Japanese - lots of flavour, but very delicate.

The big day arrived. Transporting all the bulk wine from the old winery
to the new winery which is about three kilometres away. This happened in
March, 1999.
