Hanisch Tasters From Taiwan

Cynthia and Coty arrived in Australia on Sunday, and one of the first things they organised was a private tasting of Rolf Binder Wines.

Lucky for them, Rolf was on hand to show them around the barrels.

Winter is a quiet time of the year in our Tasting Room so we don't have too many wines open for tasting, maybe just four or five each of the red and the white. We also like to show everything we do have open so it is important that we practice responsible service of alcohol. Julie is considered the "nasty" Wine Tasting Queen as she makes everyone try everything!

Therefore, the top wines, the Hanisch and Heysen Shiraz are very rarely opened, and usually only on a busy weekend, such as Easter.

Cynthia and Coty know Rolf's Hanisch very well, having been good friends of the Veritas Winery for many years. So, instead of opening and showing the current release of the 2006 Hanisch, Rolf hosted a private tasting of the later Hanisch Shiraz's, directly from the barrels.

The wines are very interesting at this stage of their development, and they are usually not as smooth as the wine in the bottle. However, the Hanisch is an outstanding wine, from wherever it comes. The rich red berry fruits and developing complexity is evident even while it is still in the barrel. And, as Rolf likes the vineyard to express itself in the bottle and glass (that is, he doesn't interfere with it too much and lets the wine make itself) what we taste in the barrel is just as exceptional as the finished product.

We don't hold many private tastings like this. However, if a small group come to visit (up to 12 people) and they book in advance, this is an option.
