Heather, David and Chris popped into our Tasting Room this week for a splash of wine.
Heather (on the left) and Chris (on the right) used to be nursing sisters together, and have reunited for the holidays. David in the middle is Chris' husband, and together the three of them were riotously funny with their many stories of days gone by.
Chris grew up on the Yorke Peninsula at Port Vincent, and has since travelled the world with her UK-born husband David. The pair spent twenty years in South Africa, drinking wine not only from the local Stellenbosch region, but also Portugese wines that were brought by Portugese sailors to the coastal towns.
Heather is originally from Tumby Bay on the lower Eyre Peninsula, and has come to house-sit in the Barossa Valley's sub-region of Marananga, via an upbringing in San Francisco. Heather, also, has spent some time travelling the world.
Chris and David have now returned to the family farm at Port Vincent, where they have found the underhouse wine cellar disappointingly depleted. It was this journey to the Barossa Valley that was meant for refilling it, but the trio had so much to catch up on, they may need to come back.
One wine in the Rolf Binder @ Veritas Winery range that did catch their attention was the 2006 Veritas Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2005 vintage of this cellar-door-only wine was fantastic, and the local Barossans probably drank quite a bit of their fair share of it. The stocks of that vintage finished last week, so now we have moved onto the brilliant 2006.
Although known for it's outstanding Shiraz, the locals know how luscious and rich the Cabernet's of the Barossa are, and how differently smooth they can be to the cooler-region Cabernet's.
Contact Julie on (08) 8562 3300 to purchase some of this wine, before it too gets drunk by those-in-the-know, or better still, catch up with an old friend and come and pay us a vist to our beautiful Tasting Room overlooking the vines. Only an hour or so from the Adelaide airport and you can truly indulge in our wonderful lifestyle.
